Breast pumps are equipment for getting breast milk for the baby if the mother needs to go out and leaves the baby to a caregiver or nanny. It can also relieve the mother from the pain and heaviness caused by the milk that has accumulated on the breast. If you want to purchase your own breastpump, you have to know first what type of breast pump will be best for you.

Here are the types of breast pumps that you can purchase:

1.       Manual breast pump- this is the cheapest breastpump that is sold on the market. It is ideal to purchase a manual breastpump if you are just occasionally using a pump. Although it is easy to use, its main drawback is that you cannot really control the force of the suction although you can take it slow so that you will be able to adjust to the force of the suction.

2.       Hospital-grade breastpumps- this type of pump can be found in hospitals although you can also purchase one if you prefer. It uses a battery similar to a car’s and is rechargeable. However, it is also a very big and bulky machine and is not ideal for traveling. There are some clinics that allow mothers to use this type of breastpumps for a certain fee.

3.       Portable breastpumps- this is ideal for mothers who love to travel with her baby. Since it is battery operated you don’t have to worry about searching for an outlet in order to be able to use the pump. You also will be able to use it discreetly anywhere as needed.

4.       Hands-free pump- this type of pump is also portable, but you will be able to pump milk even if you are doing something. It works by mimicking the sucking of a baby so that the milk will flow naturally. It is small and can be placed underneath the bra to hold it in place. Its main con is that the bra that you are wearing has to fit snugly so that the pump will not move. And since it will be bulky to look at (some people might wonder about the unusual bulk as it is not normally used) you have to wear a loose shirt or a sweater.

Choose a breast pump that you think will be right for you. It does not have to be expensive or even does not have to work like magic. As long as you are comfortable with it and will allow you to pump out the milk without any problems or pain then that certain kind of pump is okay to use.
